Final Flight - Avro CF-105 Arrow

Hi,

This is something that I completed recently in my spare time. Modeled in Maya and textured in Photoshop. The Clouds were generated with Maya Fluids and I used PaintFX to generate the contrails. The afterburners were added afterwards using Photoshop.

The CF-105 Arrow, a supersonic (mach 2+) interceptor developed in the 1950's by Avro Canada. The jet in the BG is RL-201 and in the FG, with the day glow orange markings is RL-205. I chose these 2 for the significance of being the first and last aircraft produced that flew. I've been a fan of the Arrow since I learned about it and it's sad fate so I made this image as a tribute to Arrow and the people that worked on it. A picturesque view of the last flight, or at least how I picture it.
Thanks for viewing, comments are welcome.

This is a piece that I used to try and work on my interior rendering and lighting as I don't get a chance to do stuff like this at work (mostly 3D stuff at work). Pretty happy with the lighting, would still like to improve some of the final rendering. Also, I found it difficult getting anything resembling good looking caustics on the walls & pillars. Anyways, comments, crits and tips are appreciated.

My goal when I started this piece was to try make something different, a little outside of what I'd normally sketch when I find myself in front of the PC with a few Hrs to burn. I figured I'd make something huge, at a ridiculous scale, and put it in an environment that would help illustrate that.
As it progressed, I noticed that the creature started to bear a pretty striking resemblance to "No Face" (From Ghibli's "Spirited Away") but I could live with that so I let it be and kept going. Anyways, after a few hrs and a lot of fun, this is what I ended up with.

The original concept was to have two samurais preparing to duel, but when I loaded it up again
I wanted the piece to be atmospheric without clamping the colors too much. It was created in Photoshop.

This is a model of a Focke-Wulf 190-A I made this week. It's for a real-time application so it's pretty low poly, the finished model came in at just over 3,500 faces. Ended up getting most of the detail out of the maps. The Texture's a 2048 page with accompanying Normal and specular layers. It was a fun little project, kinda reminded me of when I was a kid making model planes with my Dad. Anyways, thanks for viewing. Comments and Crits are welcome.
